Gas training for service technicians
CITO gas programmes are specifically designed to ensure gas operatives working within the caravan industry receive the appropriate training and accreditation for the level of gas service they work at. For most service engineers this will be at ACoPs competence level; however, for some technicians they will need an ACS qualification.
What is ACOPS/STGW and ACS?
- ACoPs stands for Approved Code of Practice(s) for gas which has now been replaced by Standards of Training in Gas Work (STGW)
- ACS stands for National Accredited Certification Scheme for Individual Gas Fitting Operatives
Who needs what?
Service technicians working on privately owned touring caravans and motorhomes need to have ACoPs for their standard service requirements. However, if the technician works with gas on units that are hired out, used for business purposes (e.g. burger vans), or on static caravans on holiday or residential parks, they must have an ACS qualification and be registered with Gas Safe.
