Sir Digby Jones, who hosted the event said, "I warmly congratulate all employers who have led the way by making the Skills Pledge. By taking this stepyou are showing that by investing in the skills of your people, you are investing inyour businesses. At the same time, you are helping the UK seize the opportunity that globalisation presents, enabling us to compete in the brutally competitive world economy of the future."

Gordon Brown welcomed the businesses attending, which ranged from small businesses like the Dog and Duck Leisure Parks to multi nationals such as Ford and McDonalds.  “I want to thank all of you for your commitment to what is the central task of the next few years, and that is building a strong economy in our country through building the skills in our economy.  All of us are partners in this exercise.”
